Duong Anh Vu from Ho Chi Minh City once again claims the top spot among the Vietnam Carom cueists.
Insider were not surprised that defending champion Duong captured again the 1 Cushion and 3 Cushion crowns at the National Championships at Dong Nai Gymnasium in Bien Bao, July 6-13. Duong is one of Vietnam's billiard figureheads for long time yet.
After win in 1 cushion section (final vs Nguyen Sy Tuong 100-97) Duong beat Tuong An Toan in the 3 Cushion final. Initially his opponent was 15 points up, but the 2006 World Championship quarter finalist, Doha Asian Games finalist, Vietnam Sports Games Champion and current world number 23 then was levelling to 34-34 before going on to win 40-35.
The televised Bien Bao event also included the National Championships in 8-Ball, 9-Ball and Billiards.
The titles went to Do Hoang Quan (8-Ball), Huynh Thi Ngoc Huyen (9-Ball Ladies), Le Quang Trung (9-Ball) and Nguyen Thanh Binh (Billiards).
As supporting programme Philippines' Pool hero Efren Reyes was playing some matches against Hua Kien Duc (3 Cushion, 20-15), Luong Chi Dung (9-Ball, 5-3) and Vu Trong Khai (9-Ball, 5-4).
Duong Anh Vu will be one of Vietnam's hopes at the Asian Indoor Games (Macau) in september and the South East Asian Games (Thailand) in december.
