After last 16 round Alexander Palamar and Kanuibek Saguinduikov further on were considered as the favourites.
Ukraine's hope Alexander Palamar, 2006 World Championship runner up and reigning European Champion, made his way through last 64 and last 32 with victories over Georgia's G.Beryashvily (5-0) and Saylan Adamov (Kyrgyzstan, 5-3). Kazakhstan's number one Kanuibek Saguinduikov firstly had difficulties against Artem Moiseyenko (Ukraine). But the European Cup Minsk leg winner defeated current world number 10 with 5-4, subsequently he beat F.Maitui (Kazakhstan) 5-1 in last 32.
One of the most thrilling last 32 match should have been the clash of world number 13 Daniyl Bogushewskiy (Russia) and the current Russian Dynamic Pyramids Champion Alexander Tzhepikov. Only the last set decided the match and Bogushewskiy with 5-4 reached the last 16.

Quarters:
While current world number 1 Palamar stayed victorious, now had come the tournaments end for Saguinduikov. Compatriot Anatoliy Schewtshenko overcame him with a devastating 5-0. So Saguinduikov has no chance to repeat his 2004 Asia Open win.
On the other hand the 2007 Longoni Cup winner Pavel Kousmin (Russia) reached the semis and will meet there Alexander Palamar.
