Junior missed victory at 25.000 $ Kazakhstan Open by a narrow margin.
1 day upon completion of the 6th Asia Open the Kazakh Federation on the occasion of Kazakhstan's 15th anniversary in Almaty once more kept ready a 25.000 $ prize fund for Kazakhstan Pyramids Open.
86 players from Kazakhstan (49), Uzbekistan (2), Russia (14), Ukraine (4), Azerbaijan (3), Kyrgyzstan (7), Belarus (4), Georgia (2) and China (1) followed up on the invitation and chased at Billiard Club 'Bastau' a 5.000 $ winners prize money.
Some usual suspects like Ukraine's Alexander Palamar and Artem Moyseyenko, Russia's Alexander Tzhepykov, Pavel Kousmin and Daniyl Bogushewsky, Kazakhstan's Kanuibek Saguinduikov, Kyrgyzstan's Kybanuitshbek Saguinduikov and Belarus' Yevgeniy Kourta, which already played Asia Open, this time again waited in the starting blocks as well as Asia Open Champion Vladimir Vinetswayg (Russia).
But one is absent on this list. Some touchstones of his career: In september 06 he reached the semis at Eurasia Grand Prix in Minsk, in october 06 he beat Yury Pashtshisnky (Russia, world number three) at K'Cell Cup final in Astana, in november 06 he captured the "Absolute Kazakhstan Championship" crown, European Junior Champion 2006, Kazakh Junior Champion 2005-2007, World Team Champion 2007......Alichan Karaneyev from Almaty already can match with the world class, even though he turned just 17 yesterday.
And over the past 3 days he showed again his ability: Through double elimination pre rounds with wins over compatriots Shangarayev and Achmetov he run direclty into the knock out stages. Last 32: 5-1 vs Saguinduikov (Krg), last 16: 5-4 vs Kerymov (Aze), quarters: 5-4 Chmaladze (Geo) and semis: 5-4 vs Bayev (Rus).
On other brackets half Russia's Daniyl Bogushewsky paved his way: Last 16: 5-2 vs Kazakhstan's monument Saguinduikov, quarters: 5-1 vs Mudarysov (Kaz) and semis: 5-0 vs Suikembayev (Kaz).
At 5 o'clock p.m. Kazakh time the best of 13 final began. At first Bogushewsky came to the fore with an 8-7 set, but Karaneyev promptly was levelling by an 8-1. After the Russian snatched up the following 3 sets (8-6, 8-0, 8-7) Karaneyev answered with 8-0 and 8-0. Thereafter Bogushewsky gained the 5-3 lead with an 8-0. But again the Kazakh fought back, an 8-4 and 8-1 helped him to level. Another won set (8-0) even earned him his first lead in the match. Bogushewsky took the next set (8-2) to 6-6, so the last frame had to decide. The 13th set did take long, and at the end Karaneyev was pipped at the post, Bogushewsky won the set with 8-6.
With a narrowly 7-6 Daniyl Bogushewsky captured the 2007 Kazakhstan Open crown.
Alichan lost narrowly in the final, but more than a few people feel confident: We'll hear a lot of him in the next years.....
