Stuart Pettman of England on Monday convinced the local fans that their hero Issara Kachaiwong won't have an easy time when the two clash in the CAT Telecom-Chanthaburi Thailand Cup 2007 last 16 round on Wednesday.

Pettman was in great form as he defeated young qualifier Poramin Danjirakul, a ward at the Sports Authority of Thailand-sponsored Asian Centre of Excellence, 4-1 in their wildcard round match at the New Travel Lodge Hotel.

Making light of a painful blister on his cueing right palm, Pettman displayed his potting prowess to a large crowd as he picked up a brilliant clearance of 129 points in the fourth frame.

Earlier in the last 32 round on Sunday afternoon, Issara, ranked top in the Kingdom, had scored clearances of 135 and 127 points in straight frames to rout Suriya Suwannasingh 4-0.

In Wednesday's clash between Pettman and Issara, the former should have a slight psychological edge as he had beaten his Thai rival in their last meeting in the semifinals of the first ranking tournament of the season in Hua Hin in May. Pettman had gone on to win the title, beating Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Orm in the final.

Ratchapol had played with ease in his wildcard round match on Monday with first-time qualifier Susipong Nimwongsa to open up a 3-0 lead, but then things took a different turn.

Ratchapol, one of the most illustrated Thai sports stars, lost two frames in a row and then needed a break of 50-plus at a crucial juncture in the sixth frame to tame his rival 4-2.

Ratchapol next plays Chatchawal Rutphae, who was in impressive form in upsetting Mana Upraphai 4-2 on Sunday, in the last 16 round on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, China's Liu Song also played brilliantly to blank qualifier Ekarin Chanmanee 4-0 with the help of breaks of 87 and 81 points. Liu Songs faces Phaithoon Phonbun, winner of the fourth ranking event in Phitsanulok late last month, on Tuesday evening.

Frame scores
Wildcard round: Liu Song (China) beat Ekarin Chanmanee 4-0 (87-10, 81-31, 67-48, 84-41); Ratchapol Pu-Ob-Orm beat Susipong Nimwongsa 4-2 (63-15, 103-0, 71-9, 28-74, 60-65, 87-4); Stuart Pettman (England) beat Poramin Danjirakul 4-1 (0-70, 67-6, 65-64, 132(129)-0, 80-18)
