On october 11-14 the Russian mix of 8-Ball, Billiards and Pyramids, called DYNAMIC PYRAMIDS, on Saint Petersburg's Vasilyevsky Island saw its first world championship.

At the Lenekspo Pavillon nearly no one of the world's best Russian Pyramids players was absent. Besides the former CIS bastion and Finland on the list of participants also some exotic flags were appearing: Wales (Emyr Williams), Germany (Dieter Johns and Nikolay Byen), Afghanistan (Madjid Popalsei), India (Manshit Singh) and Italy (Mario Kastriota). A total of 61 players from 21 nations did sign on.

Besides the reigning Ukrainian and Russian Champions, Yaroslav Vinokour and Alexander Tzhepikov, surely also Alexander Palamar (Ukraine), Kanuibek Saguinduikov (Kazakhstan), Russia's Yuri Pashtzhinsky and Pavel Kousmin, Kyrgyzstan Champion Kanuibek Saguinbayev and others were counted among the favourites.

The televised event was organized by the International Pyramids Committee, the Russian Federation of Billiard Sports and the Federation of Billiard Sports Saint Petersburg.
Format: day 1 & 2 : double elimination knock out (best of 9), day 3 & 4 : final rounds from last 32 (best of 13)

First and second day were interesting inasmuch some known names dropped out: Azerbaijan Champion Seymour Mamedov, Bowrshan Shangarayev (Kazakhstan) and Russia's Pavel Mechovov. Also the new Kazakh star Alichan Karaneyev didn't see the third day. After his win over Anton Smetanin (Estonia, 5-0) he lost his match against world number 12 Yevgeny Kourta from Belarus, before he finally dropped out against Stalingrad Cup Champion Arman Baklachyan (Armenia, 2-5).

The biggest surprise in last 32 round surely was as Asia Open Champion Vladimir Vinetswayg met his Waterloo by a 2-7 against Sergey Ermakov (Lithuania). Other results:

Viewed from the Ukraine only Palamar reached the next round by his win over Belarussian Igor Koupawa (7-2), because also Yaroslav Vinokour lost his match (3-7 vs Vidshay Drangoy, Moldova). Semis: He played a great tournament til then, but now the end had come - Armenia's number one Arman Baklachyan was defeated by Saguinbayev 2-7. The other match one could refer to as classic: Palamar vs Pashtzhinsky. This time once again the Ukrainian had the last laugh. By a 7-3 he booked a final spot.

Final: The same manning as in april at World Cup Combined Pyramids:
Alexander Palamar (Ukraine) vs Kanuibek Saguinbayev (Kyrgyzstan)

The first frame went to Palamar (8-7), before the Kyrgyz clinched the next two frames (1-8, 5-8).
Palamar's replied with 8-4 and 8-0, but again Saguinbayev won 2 frames in a row: 6-8, 4-8.
The Ukrainian counterattacked again with an 8-0, but Saguinbayev beared up: 4-8.
Then with an 8-5 Palamar made up again. The score board now showed 5-5 and tension was in the air. The next two frames had to decide the final.......

....and both went to the Kyrgyz. With 5-8 and 0-8 Saguinbayev captured the gold medal and the winner's prize: an Audi A3. Palamar earned 5.000 USD, Pashtzhinsky and Baklachyan 3.000 USD, place 5-8 1.000 USD.
