Roschkowsky, Kaplan and Dremsizis capture German Pool titles - 15 year old pupil Dominic Jentsch causes quite a stir again
On November 3-11 this year again Bad Wildungen's Maritim Hotel became the stage for Germany's best Pool players to fight for the 2007 National crowns in 4 single categories of Ladies, Men, Ladies Seniors and Seniors.
The Ladies tournaments were dominated by Janine Schwan and Sylvia Buschhüter (40+). After both won the Cup (8-Ball, up to 4, knock out) afterwards they captured also the 8-Ball crowns, moreover Sylvia the 9-Ball title. In Ladies 9-Ball final Janine has been edged out by Tina Vogelmann 8-9. In Straight Pool competition Diana Stateczny didn't let anybody put her over a barrel. In the final the European 8-Ball Champion beat Daniela Benz and scored her 4th National 14/1 title in a row.
The Men's 14/1 competition was characterized by multiple German and European Champions Alexander Dremsizis and Andreas Roschkowsky. It was no coincidence that both reached the up to 150 final. With his 5th visit at the table Roschkowsky exacted the preliminary decision: 88 balls made for 141-38. After Dremsizis made just 2 balls, Roschkowsky run the game out and captured his next German 14/1 title after 2000.
Dremsizis, also the Cup runner up (winner: Daniel Schwerdtfeger), then had the last laugh in 9-Ball, where he defeated Christian Brehme in the final 11-4. The new Senior Champions are warhorse Guenter Geisen (Cup and 8-Ball), Harald Schroeter (9-Ball) and Holger Gries, who won the 14/1 title for the second consecutive year.
But one of the Nationals highlights came with the men's 8-Ball competition. Defending Champion Jörn Kaplan reached the final again by wins over Ralf Mess (9-7) and Christian Brehme (9-4) in quarters and semis. Afore he had to bear just one loss - against former multiple German and European Junior Champion Nicolas Ottermann (3-7) - but completed his loosers bracket matches solidly thereafter.
The second final spot has been booked by a player who elated the spectators with some outstanding performances over all two 8-Ball days.
15 year old Dominic Jentsch whitewashed S.Jeszberger in his first match 7-0, whereat his opponent had only one chance - after 4 racks in a row Jeszberger has been served a safety. With his second visit at the table Dominic run the match out.
After he lost to the subsequent finalist Kaplan 4-7, Dominic went on with his way by a narrowly 6-7, before afterwards he played first class 8-Ball again: After 2-5 behind he closed the match against R.Dincer without any error to 7-5. Against 9-Ball Champion Alexander Dremsizis he made 6 racks in a row to 7-1, Ottermann he overcame with 9-8 in the quarters. Teammate John Blacklaw was no problem for him in the semis: 9-6 at the end. So Dominic made a record as the youngest ever finalist at Men's German Pool Championships.
Final: After 3-3 Dominic made 3 racks in a row, but an ineffective break allowed Jörn to the table where he answered with 4 straight racks to take the lead at 7-6. 3 racks later the score board kept 8-8 and Dominic had the last break of the match. 2 balls found their way into the pockets, the dwarf then made four balls but missed the 5. Jörn seized his chance and run the game out to win his second consecutive National 8-Ball title.
After his junior medals 2007 (German U16 Champion 8-Ball, runner up European U16 Championships 9-Ball and runner up European U16 Team Championships) this was Dominic Jentsch's first appearance at the men's circuit - what a debut. His next appointment: The World Junior 9-Ball Championship in Willingen (Ger) on November 27-30.
