The new Pyramids star from Kazakhstan stands up to 4 World Champions, 2 European Champions and a Pyramids legend at St.Petersburg's "Splendid 8" Invitational 2007.

Since 2005 the Russian and St.Petersburg Federation yearly invite 8 of the world's best Pyramids players for a knock out Dynamic Pyramids tournament which run in St.Petersburg throughout the whole year: THE SPLENDID EIGHT.

This year's edition again the list of participants was the who's who of Pyramids world class:
Alexander Palamar (Ukr, 20) - European Champion 2006, runner up WC 2006
Kanuibek Saguiduikov (Kaz, 24) - World Champion 2001, 2004, 2007
Pavel Mechovov (Rus, 22) - World Champion 2006
Evgenjy Stalev (Rus, 28) - World Champion 2000
Vladimir Petoushkov (Rus, 23) - European Champion 2002
Yaroslav Vinokour (Ukr, 33) - World Champion 2003
Alichan Karaneyev (Kaz, 17) - European Junior Champion 2006 & World Team Champion 2007
Alexander Pouchlenko (Rus) - "father" of Dynamic Pyramids & veepee of St.Petersburg Federation

Format: Knock out, up to 7 frames, shot clock 45 sec.
Locations: "Leader" and "X-Time" St.Petersburg

Quarters:
February 10 : Stalev 7-2 Vinokour
March 6 : Palamar 7-3 Pouchlenko
April 4 : Mechovov 5-7 Karaneyev
May 3 : Saguinduikov 7-2 Petoushkov

In semis (October, November) had come the tournament's end for 2005 Champion Alexander Palamar and Defending Champion Evgenjy Stalev. Palamar lost to Saguinduikov 2-7, Stalev had to yield to Karaneyev 4-7.
This meant an all Kazakh final on december 10 at "X-Time" club - and clash of 2 leading Pyramids figures of our days:
Saguinduikov claimed his third (Freestyle) World Championship crown some days before - 17 year old most promising Pyramids youngster Karaneyev reached the final of this year's Asia Open. Together with Irina Tyan both clinched this year's World Team Cup in March when they beat Russia 3-1 in the final.

Final: At first Saguinduikov captured solidly frame 1 and 2. The third stage went to the youngster, but the current World Champion extended his lead to 3-1 thereafter. Then Karaneyev made 3 frames in a row to 4-3 lead. With an in-out 8-0 frame Saguinduikov equalised to 4-4. Thereafter the final's crucial moments: Karaneyev made 8 balls in row, breaked successfully and run out also the next frame. 4-6 behind, Saguinduikov in 11th frame made an error when the score board kept 2-6. Karaneyev had ball in hand and had just one ball to pot for the crown, what doesn't made any problems to him.
