WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPION WINS TAIWAN INTERNATIONAL SUPER CUP

An exquisite field at 3rd Super Cup 9-Ball Invitational in Taiwan - Ko Pin-Yi finishes off the year with the win.
The Chinese Taipei Billiard Association for the third time invited 14 top players from around the world for International Super Cup 9-Ball, December 28-31 in Taoyuan (Taiwan):
Group A:
Shane Van Boening - (US, US Open 9-Ball Champion 2007, World 10-Ball Champion 2007 - stucked in bad weather in US, has been replaced by Lu Hui-Chan (TPE, last 16 worlds 9-Ball 2007)
Roberto Gomez (PHI, runner up 9-Ball worlds 2007)
Kuo Po-Cheng (TPE, quarter finalist 9-Ball worlds 2007)
Marcus Chamat (SWE, World Summit Of Pool Champion 2005)
Ralf Souquet (GER, 5-time World Pool Masters Champion)
Ko Pin-Yi (TPE, World Junior 9-Ball Champion 2007)
Yang Ching-Shun (TPE, Super Cup Champion 2005 & 2006)
Group B:
Wu Chia-Ching (TPE, 2005 World 9-Ball & 8-Ball Champion)
Rodney Morris (US, 2006 UPA Pro Tour Champion)
Fu Che-Wei (TPE, semi finalist 9-Ball worlds 2006)
Hayato Hijikata (JPN, World Junior 10-Ball Champion 2007)
Jeff De Luna (PHI, 2006 Asian Games 9-Ball finalist)
Chang Jung-Lin (TPE, 2007 Asian 9-Ball Tour Grand Finals Champion)
Thorsten Hohmann (GER, World Straight Pool Champion 2006)
Modus: Round robin group matches, quarters, semis, final.
All matches winner break, up to 7 except final up to 11.
Group winners seeded for semis, places 2 & 3 of each group qualified for quarters.
All matches were live broadcasted by Taiwanese Television.
Group A saw Yang as the winner, Gomez as 2nd and Ko as 3rd.
Chamat won just 2 matches (vs Souquet 7-1, vs Gomez 7-3), Souquet finished the group stage with just one win (vs Ko 7-5).
Kao missed the quarters by a narrow margin when he had 1 losing rack more than Ko on his account what earned him the 4th place.
Group B:
1-Fu, 2-Wu, 3-Morris
De Luna and Hohmann won two matches.
Against Fu the German had 2 chances - from 0-2 Fu ran the game out to 0-7.
Chang won 3 matches, while Fu, Wu and Morris made 4 wins.
Hijikata two times lost 6-7. Against Hohmann he came back from 0-5 to 6-5, but no ball found the way into the pockets when he broke for the next rack. Hohmann cleaned up the rack and made a golden break thereafter.
Quarters:
Gomez 7-4 Morris
Wu 4-7 Ko
Semis:
Fu 6-7 Gomez
Yang 5-7 Ko
Ko at first lead 6-2, then Yang catched up to 6-5 and had the break. Yang tried a 2/9 combination, but missed. Thereafter Ko ran the match out.
The final was a plain sailing in favour of Ko. He beat Gomez 11-5, captured the 2007 Super Cup title and earned 20.000 USD.
