This year again in St.Petersburg some Pyramids titans will meet to fight for 'Splendid 8' trophy.
The 'Splendid 8' Dynamic Pyramids Invitational, initialised by St.Petersburg's Billiard Federation, goes into its fourth year. In 2008 eight experts again will hit Russia's jewel on the Newa for altogether 7 matches, divided up over the year. The organisers spared no pains by assembling an exquisite ensemble again:
Yevgenyi Stalev (Russia) - 11 times World Pyramids Champion, a monument
Jury Pashtzhinsky (Russia) - 2 times World Champion, Russia's No1 and current World No4
Kanuibek Saguinbayev (Kirghizia) - reigning Dynamic Pyramids World Champion and Kirghizia's No1
Petry Pochyoula (Finland) - Absolute National Champion
Alexander Palamar (Ukraine) - European Champion & 2 times runner up World Freestyle Championships
Kanuibek Saguinduikov (Kazakhstan) - 3 times World Champion
Sergey Ermakov (Lithuania) - Multiple National Champion and Lithuania's No1
Yaroslav Tarnovetzky (Russia) - European Cup Champion 2007
Up to now the event in three years saw 3 different winners. In 2005 Alexander Palamar defeated Yevgenyi Stalev 7-5 in the final, before the Russian beat Kanuibek Saguinduikov 7-6 in the following year. The Kazakh in 2007 again reached the final, but again the trophy has been snapped up by another - compatriot Alikhan Karaneyev beat him 7-4 on december 10 at the 'X-Time' ......
.....the same location where the first 2 opponents will kick off on February 12, 19-00 o'clock local time with the quarters:
Stalev vs Saguinbayev
All other quarters (Palamar vs Ermakov, Pashtzhinsky vs Tarnowetzky and Saguinduikov vs Pochyoula) will be run til May 21, before the semis will kick off with the first match on October 14.
On finals day December 16 besides the champion's trophy a 35.000 USD prize fund waits for all to be subdivided.
