The Splendid 8 knock out battle proceeded: At 'X-Time' on past Tuesday met Alexander Palamar and Sergeyi Ermakov.
The difference between both couldn't be greater: Ukraine's Palamar, representative of the new generation, who stormed the pro top ten 3 years ago - and the 48 year old warhorse Ermakov, the unchallenged No1 in Lithuania since many, many years.
But from the outset there was no clear favourite. Palamar should have been any, but his last performances didn't went so well. More than a few people wouldn't put it past Ermakov to win the match....
Additional to 45 seconds shot- and 15 minutes frame-clock has been introduced something new: The match was won by the first player to reach 9 frames.
After the first frame went to Palamar (8-4), Ermakov landed the next two (8-4, 8-0) for 2-1 lead. But in the next frames the success clearly was on Palamar's side. He claimed 5 frames in a row (8-6, 8-0, 8-0, 8-3, 8-4) what earned the Ukrainian a comfortable 6-2 lead.
Palamar played in his usual style, fast and sparing no risk. By contrast Ermakov acted with caution by what he often was confronted with the problem of time limit. In this case Ermakov could win still only one frame (8-0) before Palamar wrapped it up. With 8-0, 8-0 and 8-3 he captured the 9-3 win.
Alexander Palamar's opponent in semis will be the winner of the match Saguinduikov vs Pochyula (May 21).
Special thanks to Alex Matrosov.
