Pankaj Advani is looking to gain selection to compete at the forthcoming Asian Billiards Championships in Qatar, after winning both of his opening matches on the first day of the Indian team trial for the Asian Billiards Championship at PJ Hindu Gymkhana, Mumbai.

Advani, who won the Billiards Gold Medal during the 15th Asian Games in Doha last year, made easy work of beating Devendra Joshi 3-1 in his opening match.  Although the scores were level at 1-1, a dominant Advani only allowed Joshi to score a total of 25 points in the remaining two sets.  In his following match,
Advani also beat Alok Kumar by a similar 3-1 score line.

Results:
Pankaj Advani bt Devendra Joshi 3-1 (54-14, 2-100, 100-25, 100-0);
Pankay Advani bt Alok Kumar 3-1 (100-8, 8-100, 100-0, 100-48)

Elsewhere, the pin-up boy of billiards sadly did not share the same fortune as fellow compatriot Advani.  The much-respected and multiple world champion Geet Sethi, lost his first match 3-1 to Alok Kumar.

Although going two frames down in his second match against Devendra Joshi, Seehi managed to win the next two, to level the scores with his sights sets on the chance of taking the final frame to notch his first match win.

However, it was Joshi who was victorious in eventually winning the deciding frame 100-84, in what can only be described as a roller-coaster match, with many ups and downs for both players and spectators alike.

Results:
Alok Kumar bt Geet Sethi 3-1 (44-100, 100-61, 100-63,100-93)
Devendra Joshi bt Geet Sethi 3-2 (100-27, 100-50, 58-100; 96-100, 100-84;
