JOKER FACES SHEHAB in SHAIKH RASHID MEMORIAL FINAL

Top seed and defending champion Mohammed Mustafa Shehab will face second seeded Mohammed Al Joker in the final of the second Dh50,000 Shaikh Rashid memorial Open Snooker Tournament.
The match will be a repeat of the last year’s final where Shehab defeated the former UAE number Al Joker to win the inaugural tournament.
The two rivals, meanwhile, registered impressive wins in their semifinal matches with Shehab taming fourth seed and national team-mate Obaid Khalifa 5-2 while Al Joker demolished Mohammed Shafique of Pakistan 5-0 at the Dubai Snooker Club on Thursday night.
Shehab was given an early scare when Khalifa took the opening frame 57-55 but the defending champion fought back to level the scores after taking the second frame 75-48. Khalifa, however, charged back when he captured the third frame 65-21 to restore his lead.
But Shehab soon gained control with a dazzling display of superb potting which Khalifa could not counter easily. Shehab scored 78-32 to draw level 2-2 and went on to take the next three frames 67-35, 57-1, 131-0 to claim victory. Shehab’s break of 131 in the seventh frame was the highest in the tournament so far. The latest effort bettered the previous break of 106 which he posted in the prequarterfinals.
Al Joker on the other hand, made light work of Shafique, who was once ranked fifth in Pakistan, for a place in the final. Al Joker started the match in a whirlwind fashion without giving his opponent any chance to settle down. He took the opener 99-1.
The former UAE national champion continued to hold sway as Shafique struggled to find his old form. Al Joker, who potted with ease, took the second frame 114-16 and third 74-17 for a 3-0 lead. Shafique offered a little opposition in the fourth frame but that did not deter Al Joker who won 53-41 and the fifth frame 77-32 to claim an easy win.
